The usual reason is simpler: Altivar diagnostics, SoMove, documentation, and a predictable cabinet startup.

• Selection: first check motor current, load duty, supply voltage, IP rating, and motor cable length.

When Altivar 950 is not the right drive

We do not recommend Altivar 950 for a clean electrical room or a job without heavy torque where ATV930 or ATV630 is enough. In those jobs, another Schneider Electric series may be more logical, or INVT / Veichi may be enough when the project does not specifically require Altivar.

Schneider Electric is usually chosen for sites with BMS, SCADA, or an older Altivar already in the cabinet. Predictability matters there. Before ordering we ask for a motor nameplate photo and a short mechanism description. That filters out 220/380 V, IP, and braking mistakes early.
