Palletizing Robots — What They Are and Where They Are Used
A palletizing robot is an industrial manipulator optimised for stacking boxes, bags, trays, and bottles onto transport pallets. Unlike a general-purpose 6-axis robot, a palletizer uses simplified kinematics (4–5 axes) designed for repetitive vertical moves at high payloads with a lower unit cost.
Application areas in Ukraine: food and beverage (bags 25–50 kg, cases 0.5–25 kg), construction materials (cement, tiles, blocks), chemicals (canisters, drums), agro sector (grain bags, fertilisers), and logistics distribution (EUR pallet stacking per DPALÉ pattern). When integrating with a conveyor-fed packaging line, pair with frequency converters for conveyor drive control.

1. Payload. Include end-effector weight (vacuum head + frame: 5–25 kg). VCP-40 handles cases up to 30–32 kg effective payload. VCP-200 handles 50 kg cement bags.
2. Stack height. EUR pallet + 3–5 box tiers at 200 mm each = up to 1,600–2,200 mm. Verify the robot reaches the top of the stack with at least 200 mm clearance for the end-effector.
3. Stacking patterns. The palletizer controller must support programmable layer patterns (column, brick, cross). Advanced controllers support unlimited patterns via software.
4. Conveyor interface. Verify Modbus TCP or EtherNet/IP support for communication with the conveyor PLC.
5. End-effector. Boxes: vacuum cup array. Bags: clamp or shovel-style effectors. The effector type determines acceptable product surface deformation.
