AuCom soft starters: choosing between CSX, CSXi, EMX4e and EMX4i

AuCom is a New Zealand manufacturer that builds soft starters only. No drives, no contactors, no motion products at all. One specialisation across the whole range. We hold 66 positions in four series: CSX and CSXi cover 18-200 A, the EMX4e reaches 24-580 A, and the EMX4i works up to 1000 A. In kilowatts that is 7.5 to 630 kW at 400 V.

The selection logic is simple. The CSX is the basic unit: three switches. Set ramp time, then start voltage, done. The CSXi is the same CSX plus built-in electronic motor protection and a bypass. The EMX4e adds a full display and faster commissioning. The EMX4i sits at the top: adaptive start control plus extended diagnostics. Communication too, and current up to 1000 A. The price gap between CSX and CSXi at the same 110 A is UAH 47,900 against UAH 65,780. So the question is only whether you need motor protection inside the unit.

What we ask before quoting

Rated current from the motor nameplate, not from the machine documentation. We see a 5-15% discrepancy regularly. Then the load type: a centrifugal pump and a crusher need different units even at identical kilowatts. Then starts per hour and cabinet temperature, because above 40 °C derating applies. Supply for CSX and CSXi is 200-440 V, the EMX4e runs at 200-525 V, and the EMX4i handles up to 1200 V in the high-voltage version.

Prices and availability

The CSX opens at UAH 14,180 for the CSX-007-V4-C1(C2) at 18 A and reaches UAH 47,900 for the CSX-110 at 200 A. The CSXi runs from UAH 19,450 to UAH 65,780 across the same current band. The EMX4e covers UAH 27,525-205,070, while the EMX4i starts at UAH 33,550 and reaches UAH 529,300 in its top version. We hold a manual for each of the four series in English, sent with the invoice. If AuCom lead times do not suit, look at Danfoss MCD, Schneider Altistart, or the full soft starter section.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between CSX and CSXi?

Motor protection and the bypass. The CSX is the basic machine: three switches, ramp time, start voltage. The CSXi carries built-in electronic motor protection plus a bypass inside the housing. Both cover the same current band, 18-200 A, which is 7.5-110 kW at 400 V. The price gap at 110 A is UAH 47,900 against UAH 65,780. If protection already sits separately in the panel, the CSX is enough.

What is the difference between EMX4e and EMX4i?

Current and control level. The EMX4e covers 24-580 A with a display and fast commissioning. The EMX4i reaches 1000 A and adds adaptive start control. Extended diagnostics and communication come with it. At the same 200 A the prices are UAH 79,760 against UAH 97,270. Take the EMX4i when the start is hard, or when the unit has to report into SCADA.

What current and power does AuCom cover in your catalogue?

From 18 to 1000 A. In kilowatts at 400 V that is 7.5 to 630 kW. The CSX and CSXi work in the 18-200 A band (7.5-110 kW). The EMX4e gives 24-580 A, so up to 280 kW. The EMX4i reaches 1000 A and 630 kW. We hold 66 AuCom positions in total.

Where do I get the AuCom CSXi or EMX4i manual?

We hold a manual for each of the four series and send them with the invoice, before payment. Both brochures and full instructions are available in English. If you need parameters for your specific machine, tell us the load type plus motor current, and we will send starting values for ramp time and initial voltage.

What supply voltage do the AuCom series accept?

The CSX and CSXi are rated 200-440 V. The EMX4e works across 200-525 V. The EMX4i in standard form is also 200-525 V, with versions up to 1200 V for high-voltage networks. Ukrainian 380 V is covered by every series without caveats.

Is a bypass contactor required for AuCom?

Not for the CSXi, EMX4e or EMX4i, their bypass is built in. On the basic CSX a bypass comes with the C2 version. Line-side protection (breaker or fuses) and a line contactor for emergency disconnect are required regardless of series.

Does an AuCom soft starter replace a VFD?

No. A soft start removes the inrush during acceleration and gives a soft stop. After that the motor runs straight off the mains at 50 Hz. Varying speed, holding pressure with a PID loop or saving energy at partial load is beyond AuCom, as it is beyond any soft starter.

AuCom, Danfoss or Schneider, which one?

When the project does not specify a brand, we look at lead time, then at duty. AuCom is strong on narrow specialisation and sensible pricing in the mid-current range. We list 92 Danfoss MCD500 positions and 42 Schneider ATS48 positions, both good for heavy starts. Sizing is done by current and load type.
