5 kW hybrid inverter: when it fits and when you should size up to 6 kW
We typically install a 5 kW hybrid inverter in flats and small houses 60-90 m². Our customers this year run a one or two-bedroom flat or a single-storey house with gas heating. One AC at 9-12 BTU, water heater, fridge, lighting, TV. If you have a heat pump or electric stove as the primary heat source, we step up to 6 kW. There is no headroom here, especially if a well pump kicks in together with the AC.
How it works: when the grid is up we draw from it in parallel with PV panels; surplus goes into the battery. Grid drops: the unit transfers to battery in 10-20 ms, then re-engages solar. No interruption. One caveat: 5 kW is the rated figure, peak surge is 8-10 kW for short periods. If you have an old compressor with 6-7x rated starting current, ask us before ordering whether it will hold.
Single-phase or three-phase: where to start
Single-phase 220 V in a flat or house: we pick 48 V battery models. Our most-shipped units in stock are Veichi VHS-5K-L01-K (budget, MPPT 60-550 V, low start threshold for a small 4-6 panel array) and Deye SUN-5K-SG05LP1-EU (best-seller among single-phase, MPPT 150-425 V, Wi-Fi monitoring via SolarMan out of the box). Three-phase 380 V in the house: different lineup. Veichi VHS-5K-30-H with 450 V battery, Veichi VHT-5K-25-H with MPPT up to 950 V (from the manufacturer datasheet), Deye SUN-5K-SG04LP3-EU. High-voltage costs more on the battery side but is more efficient on three-phase.
What we ask before placing the order. First: your declared power capacity at the meter. If it is 3 kW, customers do take a single-phase 5 kW inverter, but you will not extract its full capacity. Second: what battery is already installed or planned, 48 V LiFePO4 or high-voltage. We do not break an existing ecosystem. Warranty 2-5 years depending on model, delivery from our Kyiv warehouse in 1-3 days.

For off-grid operation, choose a model with a wide battery voltage range and high charge current (up to 120 A). For maximum generation from solar panels, a wide MPPT range is essential, allowing more panels to be connected in series.
