Siemens LOGO 8: when we pick it over a timer relay
We ship LOGO 8 to customers building pump-station panels, gate-automation cabinets, greenhouse controls, small HVAC. Up to 24 I/O, no PID loops, program written in a couple of hours with LOGO! Soft Comfort. If a timer relay is too dumb but a S7-1200 is overkill — this is the spot.
Our Siemens PLC catalog carries 21 models in this line: LOGO 8 (13 units), LOGO 8 Basic (4), LOGO 8 Pure (4). Supply choices per Siemens datasheet: 12/24V DC, 24V DC, 100–240V AC, 230V AC. Pick to match the cabinet bus.
Basic or Pure: which we recommend
Basic ships with a built-in text display and Ethernet web server. Field tech reads I/O state straight off the cabinet door; the owner can also log in from a browser. We pick Basic when the site is unattended and somebody needs fast diagnostics without a laptop. Pump panels, store HVAC, irrigation.
Pure has no display, no web server. Roughly 25% cheaper, smaller housing. We use it where nobody touches the unit again: gate motors, dusk lighting, hobby greenhouses. Same programming software (free LOGO! Soft Comfort, FBD). One catch: firmware upload is USB only on Pure.
Applications
- Smart home. Lighting, blinds.
- Pump stations. Alternation, dry-run protection.
- HVAC. Schedule or sensor-based control.
- Greenhouses. Auto-irrigation, heating.
- Gate automation. Limit switches, anti-crush.
Expansion
Base: 8 DI + 4 DO. Up to 4 DM/AM modules (max 24 DI + 16 DO). Expansion modules.
LOGO 8 vs S7-1200
