VFD options: what we add to a drive order
A VFD option is not a marketing add-on. It is a real need driven by a specific load profile. Our typical customer buys a drive and asks: do I need a braking resistor. Answer depends on the load.
If it is a hoist, centrifuge, drum, or anything with high inertia plus frequent stops: yes, the resistor is mandatory. Otherwise the DC bus trips on overvoltage. If it is a pump or fan with smooth ramp-up and coast-down: no resistor needed. Worth noting. On HVAC cabinets in shopping centers some integrators add a resistor «just in case» — that is wasted money.
We stock four main option groups. Braking resistors are sized by drive power and ED (the duty cycle in %). Braking modules: for drives above 22 kW where the resistor lives outside the unit. EMC filters: external; needed when sensitive instruments share the cabinet or you leave industrial zone for C1/C2 class. Operator panels: remote keypads plus service USB cables.
What we ask before quoting an option
First. Drive series and power rating. That defines the resistor (ohms, kW) and the module. Second: load behavior. Frequent start-stops. Inertia. Regenerative content. Third: cabinet location and how many sensitive neighbors (for EMC).
Fourth — do you need to mount the keypad away from the drive. Then we ship the service cable: on Schneider it is SR2USB01. Delta and Bosch use their own part numbers. Delta KPE-LE02 is a common pick for the VFD-EL/E series. Ask us to confirm compatibility for your exact drive. One catch. The stock resistor we ship with a VFD does not always survive heavy duty cycles. For a sawmill, press, hoist, crane we pick a higher-rated unit with ED 50% or above per a separate calculation. Official manufacturer warranty. Nova Poshta delivery across Ukraine. 1-2 days from our Kyiv warehouse.
