Versus WEG, ABB wins on bearing service life and on cooling-fan shroud design. Versus AIR it wins on winding quality and frame casting. The price for that is 30-40% more. But on a 22 kW motor running 8000 hours a year, the IE3 class instead of IE2 pays back the price gap in 2-3 years. With VFDs M2BAX handles cable runs up to 100 m without an extra filter. What we ask before you order ABB
First: duty cycle. S1 (continuous 24/7) – IE3 class and a bearing-life margin matter. S2 (short-time), S3 (intermittent) – the cheaper IE2 makes sense because efficiency savings will not pay back. Second: environment. Wet workshop, outdoor mount, food processing – we ask, because M2BAX also ships in ATEX (explosion-proof) variants and with elevated IP56-IP66, but that is a 6-8 week factory lead time.
Third: starting method and control. Direct on-line is straightforward: we drop an ABB AF contactor next to it and call it done. A soft starter cuts inrush by 6-8x at start. A VFD goes in when you need speed control. Tell us the VFD rating and we will recommend a paired M2BAX. We keep popular sizes in stock: 1.5 / 2.2 / 5.5 / 11 / 22 / 45 kW at 1500 rpm. ABB factory warranty on M2BAX is 2-3 years. We ship from our Kyiv warehouse in 1-3 days.

Pay attention to the energy efficiency class: IE3 motors have higher efficiency and a faster payback period under continuous duty S1. Also consider the mounting type: B3 (foot-mounted), B5 (flange-mounted) or B35 (combination).
