Universal Robots cobots (UR) in Ukraine

Universal Robots is a Danish maker of collaborative robots (cobots) that work next to people without a fence once a risk assessment is done. Unlike a classic industrial robot, a UR cobot is light, quick to reprogram and stops on contact. The Chastotnik.ua catalogue lists the UR range: models from UR3e to UR20 and UR30, with a payload of roughly 3-30 kg and a reach of 500-1750 mm. Supplied to order; the price is available on request on the product page.

A cobot is one branch of a larger topic: see also the general collaborative robots page and the industrial robots section. If the task needs more force and reach than a cobot offers, compare with the classic manipulators FANUC, ABB and KUKA.

e-Series and UR Series: models and payload

The current range is the e-Series (UR3e, UR5e, UR10e, UR16e) plus the heavier UR20 and UR30. The higher the index, the greater the payload and reach. Below are guideline figures; see the model datasheet for exact values.

ModelPayloadReachTypical use
UR3e3 kg500 mmSmall assembly, screwdriving, benchtop operations.
UR5e5 kg850 mmMachine tending, testing, light handling.
UR10e12.5 kg1300 mmPalletizing, packaging, machine tending.
UR16e16 kg900 mmHandling of heavier parts, machine tending.
UR20 / UR3020 / 30 kg1750 / 1300 mmPalletizing, heavier assembly, welding.

Where UR cobots are used

The most common tasks are palletizing, machine tending (load and unload), packaging, assembly, screwdriving, and arc or spot welding with the right torch. A cobot pays off where batches are small and change often: changeover takes minutes, not days. A fence is usually not needed, but the final decision comes from the risk assessment of the specific cell and tool (a sharp gripper or torch may call for extra measures).

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a cobot different from an industrial robot?

A cobot is designed to work next to people: it is lighter, slower and stops on contact thanks to force sensors. A classic industrial robot is faster and stronger but usually works behind a fence. For small changing batches a cobot is more flexible; for heavy high-speed throughput a classic manipulator is the better fit.

Does a UR cobot need a fence?

Often no: UR cobots have built-in safety functions and can run without a fence. But it depends on the risk assessment of the specific cell, a sharp tool, a welding torch or a heavy part may require extra protective measures. Whether a fence is needed is decided by the risk analysis, not by the robot itself.

Which UR should I choose?

Base it on the part mass and the reach you need. UR3e for small assembly, UR5e as an all-rounder for machines and testing, UR10e for palletizing and longer reach, UR16e for heavier parts, UR20 and UR30 when you need 20-30 kg. Add a margin for the gripper and send us the task for an exact match.

How much does a Universal Robots cobot cost?

The price depends on the model, gripper and additional tooling. UR cobots are supplied to order, so we quote the current price on request on the product page.
