KUKA: which model we ship for welding, and which for palletizing
KUKA is the number-one industrial robot in Europe by installed base. We typically stock three series for different jobs. First: KR AGILUS (KR 6 R900, KR 10 R1100), light 6-7 kg, short reach 700-1100 mm, ships into pick-and-place at pharma and CNC tending. Second: KR CYBERTECH (KR 16 R1610, KR 20 R1810), the medium workhorse up to 20 kg, we install it for arc welding plus body-part transfer. Third: KR QUANTEC (KR 120 R3500, KR 240 R2900), heavy palletizers up to 240 kg for metallurgy and food.
A typical customer of ours this year: a metal-furniture plant takes a KR 6 R1820 arc HW (hollow wrist) for welding chair frames, 30-50 parts per shift, payback 18 months. We bring in the collaborative LBR iiwa only when a person has to stand next to the robot without a fence, which is the case for small-shop electronics assembly.
What we ask before the order: payload, reach, controller
One: wrist payload plus gripper mass. If the part is 12 kg with a 2 kg gripper, you need a 16+ kg robot (30% margin). KR 16 R1610 is the typical pick. Two: working envelope. KR AGILUS up to 1100 mm for a small shop, KR CYBERTECH 1500-1800 mm, KR QUANTEC 2700-3500 mm for big lines. Three: controller. KR C5 micro for AGILUS (compact, 25 kg), KR C5 for heavy series (110 kg cabinet). Three-and-a-half: SafeOperation safety functions need to be ordered with the robot, because retrofitting them later costs more.
We keep 100 KUKA models in stock, plus on-order from the German factory in 3-6 weeks for non-standard configurations. Manufacturer warranty 1 year, can be extended to 3 years. Integrator commissioning 7-14 days. Delivery from our Kyiv warehouse by truck for heavy series, lead time 7-14 days. Alternatives to KUKA: FANUC ArcMate for welding or MOTOMAN MH for heavy palletizing.
| Model | Series | Payload | Axes | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KR3 R540 | KR Agilus | 3 kg | 6 | Assembly, micro-machining |
| KR 6 R900 Sixx Agilus | KR Agilus | 6 kg | 6 | Pick-and-place, laboratories |
| KR 120 R2500 Quantec Pro | KR Quantec | 120 kg | 6 | Welding, machining |
| KR 360 Fortec | KR Fortec | 360 kg | 6 | Heavy palletizing, press tending |
| KR 1000 L750 Titan | KR Titan | 1,000 kg | 6 | Body-in-white, heavy loading |
For precision operations (electronics assembly, laboratory dispensing), choose the KR Agilus series with ±0.03 mm repeatability. For welding tasks, select ARC HW models such as the KR 16 ARC HW. For safe human-robot collaboration, consider the LBR iiwa 14 R820 with 7 axes and integrated torque sensors.
