5 kWh battery: when it is enough, when you need 10

A 5 kWh module (51.2 V × 100 Ah) is our entry point into off-grid living. Our typical customer this year: a 50-80 m² apartment or a small country house planning to ride through 3-4 hour evening blackouts. In that scenario 5 kWh keeps a fridge plus router plus a couple of LED lights running for 6-8 hours. A house with a heat pump, water boiler, or AC needs more. We push those customers to 10 kWh or higher.

Technically it is one 48-51.2 V module that connects to any 48 V hybrid inverter. Modularity is the main advantage. Want to double capacity tomorrow? Ship one more unit in parallel and you have 10. Felicity LPBA scales to 16 modules. Veichi VCLB to 8. Rosen in rack format is limited only by your cabinet height. We ship from our Kyiv warehouse the same day. We ask up front: which inverter, where will it sit.

What we ask before you order a 5 kWh battery

First question: the inverter. The battery BMS and the communication protocol (CAN or RS485) must match the inverter firmware. Veichi VCLB is the native pair for Veichi inverters (one brand, compatibility guaranteed). Felicity LPBA48100-OL and LUX-E are universal and work with Deye, Sorotec, Felicity, Solax. Rosen in rack format goes where you want a corporate look or a server cabinet aesthetic.

Second: form factor. The floor block (Veichi VCLB-5K-D01, Felicity LPBA) sits in a utility room on its feet. The wall version (Veichi VCLB-5K-W01) mounts in a hallway or heated garage and saves floor space. Rosen rack format goes in 1U or 2U units when you already have a stack. Third: ambient temperature. A heated room (15-25°C) takes any model. An unheated space requires confirmation: not every module has built-in cell heating. Manufacturer warranty 5 to 10 years. Sizing consultation against your inverter is free at our shop.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a 5 kWh battery cost?

As of August 2026 we keep five modules of this class in stock, all rated 5.12 kWh. The price corridor runs from UAH 60,000 to UAH 96,000: Felicity LPBA48100-OL and Veichi VCLB-5K-D01 sit at the bottom, Rosen BAT-51.2V-100AH-RACK at the top. The gap is enclosure and BMS, the Rosen ships with CAN and RS485. Prices move with each batch, so confirm with a manager before ordering.

How long does a 5 kWh battery last on one charge?

5.12 kWh is the nameplate figure. Count on roughly 4.6 kWh of usable energy, since LiFePO4 gives back 90 % without hurting its life. At a 300 W load (fridge, lights, router) that is about 15 hours. Add a water heater or an iron and the figure drops to two or three hours. We normally ask a customer not how many hours they want but which loads have to survive.

Is one 5 kWh module enough for a 5-6 kW inverter?

Energy-wise yes, charge current no. The Veichi VCLB-5K accepts 50 A (0.5C), and between 0 and 15 °C its BMS cuts that to 20 A. At 51.2 V that is around 2.5 kW. A Deye SUN-6K-SG05LP1-EU can push up to 135 A into the battery, so the surplus solar simply will not be stored. For a 5-6 kW inverter we fit either two 5 kWh modules or a single 10 kWh one.

Are 48 V and 51.2 V different batteries?

They are the same thing. 51.2 V is the nominal voltage of sixteen LiFePO4 cells at 3.2 V in series, while "48 V" survived as a class name from lead-acid days. The working window is wider than the nominal: on Deye units the battery input operates over 40-60 V. So a module labelled 51.2 V fits an inverter whose datasheet says "48 V battery".

How many years does a 5 kWh battery last?

The Veichi VCLB-5K is rated for 6000 cycles at 80 % depth of discharge, Felicity states no less than 6000. One full cycle a day works out at over 15 years, but a real installation sees far fewer full cycles: on most days the battery only goes down 20-40 %. Two things genuinely shorten the life: charging below freezing and long storage at full charge.
