Omron JX (3G3JX) — a simple, compact drive for basic industrial duty

The JX is the range Omron themselves position as "simple, compact": a small, affordable general-purpose drive without the extras. In our catalogue these are three-phase 400 V models from 0.7 to 7.5 kW (3-phase 380 V input, three-phase 400 V output to the motor). It is a competitor/legacy brand we supply and service — so we are honest about where the JX truly fits and where another drive is the smarter buy.

What the JX actually does

• V/f control (constant and reduced/quadratic torque) — a simple, reliable scalar mode that is enough for conveyors, augers, mixers, pumps and fans in this class.
• Frequency range 0.5–400 Hz and overload of 150% for 1 min (150%/60 s) — a sound working margin for most machinery in this class.
• Built-in Modbus RTU over RS-485 (4800/9600/19200 bps) — the JX drops easily into a PLC or SCADA poll. There are no fieldbus boards in the JX class (no PROFIBUS, EtherCAT, etc.).
• Built-in PID controller for pumps and fans on pressure/flow, restart after a momentary power loss, and a digital operator with an adjustment dial.

Honest about braking and the filter

This is the key difference from the bigger Omron MX2/RX. The JX has no built-in brake chopper. The datasheet says it plainly: there is no regenerative braking circuit inside the drive — for dynamic braking you need an external braking unit and resistor (the "Braking Process" function is only a controlled stop against overvoltage, not a chopper). So for frequent reversals, lowering a load or high inertia, plan the external unit from the start. On EMC: three-phase models carry a built-in radio-noise filter, but a full EN61800-3 EMC filter is an external option — arrange it if the site requires CE compliance.

Where the JX fits, and where to look at Veichi

The JX is good when you want a simple, reliable "switch it on and go" drive: a pump, fan, conveyor or machine with no high dynamic demands.
