NES1-015HBE — a 1.5 kW Hitachi NES1, three-phase 3×380 V supply, 3×400 V output. The working «middle» of the three-phase NES1 line: a typical pump or fan drive in a boiler room, shop or booster station where scalar control is fine and complex logic isn't needed.

Typical uses:

• Booster or circulation pump, 1.1–1.5 kW, with pressure PID
• Extract/supply fan, quadratic V/f curve
• Conveyor or mixer with steady torque

Note: for a pump enable the built-in PID and energy-saving V/f — that removes throttling losses. If you need precise low-speed torque, this series isn't it — look at the WJ200 with sensorless vector.

Hitachi NES1 — compact entry-level VFD for simple drives

NES1 (factory name NE-S1) is Hitachi's budget 0.4–4 kW series with scalar V/f control. We reach for it when you just need to ramp a pump, fan or a small conveyor and you don't need vector control or fancy automation. For the simplest jobs it is a solid, low-cost pick. The moment you need real torque at low speed, precise closed-loop PID or a built-in EMC filter, step up to Hitachi WJ200 instead.

The supply detail that catches people out

The series has two branches and they are easy to mix up. Single-phase SBE models (the «S» class) take 1×220 V and put out 3×220 V — not 380 V. So the motor must be a 230 V machine (or wired in delta for 230 V). Three-phase HBE models (the «H» class) run on 3×380 V and output 3×400 V. SBE units go where there is no three-phase supply at all: farms, private wells, workshops, small shops on a domestic feed.

What NES1 fits

• Booster and irrigation pumps, 0.4–2.2 kW: soft start, energy saved over throttling. The built-in PID holds pressure or level without a separate controller.
• Fans and extraction: classic quadratic V/f curve, quiet running at reduced speed.
• Small conveyors, mixers, machine tools: where the torque is steady and there are no shock loads.

How NES1 compares to its rivals

Honestly, on paper NES1 and INVT GD10 are scalar-class twins. The Veichi AC10 tier already does SVC vector and stretches to 11 kW, so if there is any chance you will need low-speed torque, look that way. People pick NES1 for the Hitachi name, the simplicity and the compact case.

When NES1 is NOT the right choice

• You need torque at low speed or running under load near 3 Hz — go for sensorless vector, the Hitachi WJ200 series.
• Power above 4 kW — NES1 simply doesn't cover it, see the VFD catalog or WJ200/SJ700.
• You need a built-in EMC filter or above IP20 — NES1 is an IP20 case with no filter, add a separate EMC filter and reactor or move to WJ200.
• Single-phase model but a 380 V-only motor — SBE gives 3×220 V, you cannot run a 380 V motor directly. For 1ph→3ph 380 V see single-phase-input VFDs in other series.

Our experience with NES1

The series sells steadily for small pumps and ventilation, most often as single-phase SBE units for sites without three-phase. The classic buyer question is «will an SBE run my three-phase motor off a wall socket?» — yes, if the motor is a 230 V one. The NES1-OP keypad connects over RJ45, so parameters copy easily between units. All models carry the manufacturer warranty.
