Danfoss VLT AutomationDrive FC301 — an all-rounder for industrial machinery

The FC301 is the general-industrial Danfoss drive for constant torque: conveyors, extruders, mixers, crushers, machine tools. If you do not need the dynamics and encoder feedback of the larger FC302 but want Danfoss reliability and flexible control, this is the workhorse middle of the range. Our range is 0.7–75 kW, all three-phase 380 V. VVC+ control gives steady torque at low speed without a speed sensor.

What the FC301 is good for

• Conveyors and transfer lines (0.7–22 kW): a steady loaded start, smooth acceleration of long belts.
• Extruders, mixers, crushers (5.5–45 kW): holds torque at low speed where an induction motor without a drive would stall.
• General-purpose pump and fan groups (3–75 kW): when the AQUA/HVAC special functions are not needed.

FC301 vs FC302 — how to choose

The most common question. The FC301 and FC302 share the AutomationDrive platform in the same enclosure, but the FC301 is simpler: VVC+ control, no encoder flux-vector, none of the FC302's Safe Torque Off-level features. For a constant-torque conveyor, pump or mixer the FC301 fully covers the job and costs less. As soon as you need precise positioning, axis synchronisation, torque at zero speed or dynamic headroom, choose the FC302.

A simple rule: constant torque and no dynamics — FC301. Dynamics, precision, power above 75 kW — FC302.

When the FC301 is NOT the right choice

• Positioning, synchronisation, torque at zero speed — that is the FC302.
• Water-utility pumps with dedicated functions — the FC202 AQUA series.
• Simple machinery up to 22 kW with Modbus — an iC2 covers it for less.

The FC301 is the case where the customer says "I need a reliable Danfoss for a conveyor, nothing extra." They buy it for constant torque, and it runs for years.
