XDR-E is a series of compact AC/DC DIN-rail power supplies that Mean Well launched in April 2025. It replaces three earlier lines — SDR, NDR, and EDR — which the manufacturer sold in nearly 100 million units over the past decade. This isn't a cosmetic refresh: the new models get a smaller housing, higher efficiency, and voltage options that simply didn't exist before.

Compared to the predecessor: our NDR lineup covered the 75-480W range with just four or five voltage options per power tier, while XDR-150E and XDR-240E now add 36V — useful for loads where 24V falls short and 48V is overkill.

Most often this kind of supply goes into an automation cabinet — feeding a PLC, an HMI panel, sensors, and valves. What matters here is compactness and reliability across temperature swings, not record-breaking wattage.

Should You Replace NDR or EDR With XDR-E
If NDR or EDR is already installed and working, there's no reason to swap it out mid-project — the series wasn't discontinued for defects, just superseded. For new projects, and as a replacement when a unit fails, we already recommend XDR-E: same price bracket, smaller footprint, higher efficiency.
The one thing worth checking yourself before ordering a replacement is the exact mounting dimensions in the datasheet, if your cabinet was designed tight around the old housing. Most of our customers swap it in without reworking the panel, but for a dense layout it's worth confirming the numbers first.
