LS SV008IG5A-4 — 0.7 kW VFD, three-phase 380 V

An iG5A model rated 0.7 kW with three-phase 380 V input and output. Rated output current is 2.5 A. Suited to small pumps, fans, conveyors and machine tools on a 380 V industrial supply. V/F and sensorless vector control, 150% overload for 1 minute, frequency up to 400 Hz.

The brake chopper is built in (B1/B2 terminals for an external resistor), with a built-in RS485 and Modbus-RTU for SCADA and PLCs. IP20 enclosure. As a modern alternative in the same class, consider the Veichi AC10.

LS iG5A (SV-iG5A) — a compact general-purpose VFD for simple drives

The iG5A from LS Electric (formerly LS Industrial Systems) is a workhorse among budget VFDs. You pick it where you need to smoothly run a pump, fan, conveyor or machine tool and complex logic is not required. In our range these are models from 0.4 to 22 kW: single-phase 220 V input (up to 1.5 kW inclusive) and three-phase 380 V across the whole range. Per the LS manual, control is scalar V/F plus a sensorless vector mode (no encoder), overload is 150% for 1 minute, and the maximum output frequency is 400 Hz.

What iG5A is good for

• Pumps and fans: soft start, pressure or flow hold via the built-in PID controller.
• Conveyors and transporters: sensorless vector gives usable low-speed torque without an encoder.
• Machine tools, mixers, light process equipment: 8 multi-function inputs P1–P8, multi-step speeds, JOG.
• Retrofitting old drives: compact housing, simple keypad setup.

What to know from the LS manual

The brake transistor (DB chopper) is built into every frame: there are B1/B2 terminals on the unit for an external braking resistor. So the chopper is on board while the resistor is bought separately to suit your inertia and duty cycle (LS gives a resistance/wattage table in the manual). Communications: a built-in RS485 port with Modbus-RTU and LS Bus protocols, handy for SCADA and PLCs. Enclosure rating is IP20 (UL Type 1), cabinet mounting. There is no internal PLC — this is a simple drive, not a logic controller.

Our take: for typical run-a-pump/fan/conveyor jobs the iG5A is a reliable, simple choice. If you want a modern compact equivalent in the same class, see the Veichi AC10; if you need a heavy start, high torque or extended vector control, the Veichi AC310.

When iG5A does NOT fit

• You need closed-loop encoder control or a built-in PLC — the iG5A does not do this, take a higher-class drive.
• Single-phase 220 V above 1.5 kW — this series only has single-phase models up to 1.5 kW; see our VFD catalogue.
• A hard braking duty with frequent reversals — size an external braking resistor up front from the LS table.

Our experience with iG5A

The iG5A is steadily chosen for retrofits and new simple units — customers value the clear keypad and low-maintenance nature. Common questions: is there Modbus for SCADA (yes, built-in RS485 with Modbus-RTU) and do you need a separate braking resistor (only if there is regeneration — an inertial mechanism that brakes often).
