Invertek Optidrive E2 1F — a single-phase 220 V V/f drive for pumps and fans on a domestic supply

The Optidrive E2 1F is the single-phase build of the economy series from UK-based Invertek. The maker spells it out in the product line name — Volts-per-Hertz: this is a scalar (V/f) drive with no pretensions to complex motion control. The "1F" means the input is single-phase 220 V, while the drive delivers a full three-phase 220 V output to the motor — exactly what you need when all you have is a domestic single-phase supply but the machine runs on a three-phase motor. In our range this is a compact 0.7 kW drive. The series is now discontinued (the successors are the Optidrive E3 and P2), so we supply it as a like-for-like replacement in existing panels and will honestly point you to a current equivalent.

What this drive is, and where it fits

• Single-phase 220 V input to three-phase 220 V output: the classic task of running a three-phase motor where only one phase is available. The motor must be a three-phase 220 V type, not a 380 V one — that distinction matters.
• V/f (scalar) control: there is no sensorless vector, no closed-loop encoder control and no built-in PLC. A pump, a fan or a simple conveyor does not need vector control — what matters is a smooth start and speed regulation.
• Output frequency up to 500 Hz — enough for standard 50/60 Hz motors and for higher-speed applications within the limits of scalar control.
• Communication: the E2 series provides a built-in Modbus RTU over RS-485 for integration into basic automation.

EMC filter, braking and protection class — check by part number

Across the Optidrive family several parameters are encoded in the part number itself: the presence of a built-in braking transistor (a chopper for an external resistor), the type of internal EMC filter and the exact enclosure build. The maker states sealed builds up to IP55 for the E2, but the right way to confirm the configuration of a specific model is by its full part number and datasheet, not by a general series description. So we verify the chopper, the EMC filter and the exact protection class against the datasheet before shipping — so you do not receive a "bare" unit where you actually need, say, dynamic braking.
