195N1134 — Danfoss VLT 2800 rated 18.5 kW, three-phase 380V supply, rated current 37.5 A. The most powerful model of the series in our range — for large pump stations and heavy ventilation.

Note: this is the top of our range; officially the three-phase VLT 2800 reaches 22 kW. The series is EOL — at this power a modernization to the Veichi AC310 or FC280 is usually better value.

Danfoss VLT 2800 — compact book-style frequency converter (discontinued)

Let us be straight up front: the VLT 2800 is discontinued. Danfoss moved the series to Inactive status and stopped supplying it around the end of January 2017. So there is really one reason to buy it today — when a VLT 2800 is already sitting in your panel and you need a like-for-like replacement without reworking the wiring. For a new project, look at the official successor FC280 or our more budget-friendly Veichi drives. In our range these run from 0.7 to 18.5 kW — some single-phase 220V supply, some three-phase 380V.

What this series is

The VLT 2800 is a narrow, book-style drive that mounts side-by-side, board to board, to save panel space. The control principle is V/f plus VVC (Voltage Vector Control) for induction motors. Enclosure is IP20. Almost all models ship with a built-in RFI/EMC filter (1A class) and a built-in brake chopper on three-phase versions — the things installers liked about this series back in the day.

Where the VLT 2800 was used

• Conveyors and transport lines: 0.7–7.5 kW — smooth start, brake chopper to stop the load.
• Booster pumps and fans: 1.5–18.5 kW — flow/pressure control and energy savings.
• Machine tools and machine building: compact format where panel space is tight.
• Single-phase 220V sites: the 195N00xx models run from one phase and output three-phase 220V to the motor — for places with no three-phase mains.

Communications

Standard is an RS485 interface with the FC protocol, Modbus RTU and Metasys N2. Profibus DP V1 and DeviceNet were available as an option via a separate module. The series does not support EtherCAT or CANopen — it predates those buses, so do not expect modern industrial networks from it.

VLT 2800 vs successors and alternatives

Our take is simple. If you want to stay on Danfoss and not rework the panel, go FC280: same dimensions, same plugs and cable lengths, and MyDrive Assistant auto-maps a replacement code from the old VLT 2800. If you just need the function back at a sensible price, look at Veichi AC10 or AC310.

When the VLT 2800 is NOT the right choice

• A new project from scratch — no point entering an EOL series, take Danfoss FC280 or FC51.
• You need EtherCAT, CANopen or a modern fast bus — the series cannot do it, see Veichi AC310.
• You need a built-in PLC or complex drive logic — that is not the VLT 2800's profile.

Our experience with the VLT 2800

We still get regular requests to replace VLT 2800 units — the series was installed everywhere on conveyors and pumps, and many are still running after years. As a rule we suggest two routes: an exact replacement to fit the existing panel, or a move to FC280 or Veichi if a modernization is planned anyway.
