Danfoss VLT AutomationDrive FC302 — the top drive for dynamics and high power

The FC302 is the AutomationDrive flagship: encoder flux-vector control, full torque at zero speed, precise positioning and axis synchronisation. It is chosen where the FC301 can no longer keep up dynamically, or where power up to 500 kW is needed. This is our widest Danfoss range: 0.7–500 kW, all three-phase 380 V. Hoists, centrifuges, winders, large extruders, test rigs — that is its work.

What the FC302 is good for

• Hoisting gear and cranes (5.5–90 kW): torque at zero holds the load, controlled brake operation.
• Winding, centrifuges, extrusion (11–160 kW): precise torque and tension control.
• Large pumps, compressors, mains machinery (160–500 kW): where the FC301 is no longer built.

What the FC302 adds over the FC301

The key is closed-loop control. In encoder flux-vector mode the FC302 holds set torque from zero speed — critical for hoists and winders. Built-in Safe Torque Off (STO) simplifies the emergency-stop circuit without external contactors. Dynamic braking with the built-in chopper absorbs the inertia of a centrifuge or flywheel. Communication is Modbus RTU on board, with optional PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherCAT and EtherNet/IP via MCA cards. This is a drive built to integrate into serious automation.

For a static task the FC302 is overkill and costs more than an FC301. But for dynamics, positioning and power above 75 kW there is no alternative in the range.

When the FC302 is NOT the right choice

• A simple constant-torque conveyor or pump — you overpay; choose the FC301.
• A water-utility pump with dedicated functions — the FC202 AQUA series fits better.
• Small machinery up to 22 kW with no dynamics — an iC2 is enough.
