Altivar 12 is a compact series for small machines on a 220 V single-phase supply. Our catalog currently has 4 active items in this series: 0.7-2.2 kW, supply variants 1-phase 220 V, IP20 enclosures, EMC filter: yes. Schneider Electric is not the cheapest route. The usual reason is simpler: Altivar diagnostics, SoMove, documentation, and a predictable cabinet startup.

Typical jobs for Altivar 12

• Common mechanisms: small pumps, fans, gates, material feed, and simple conveyors.
• Selection: first check motor current, load duty, supply voltage, IP rating, and motor cable length.
• Commissioning: with Altivar, define the command source, speed reference, network protocol, and braking need before wiring.

When Altivar 12 is not the right drive

We do not recommend Altivar 12 for a pump station, HVAC project with BACnet, or a heavy-torque mechanism. In those jobs, another Schneider Electric series may be more logical, or INVT / Veichi may be enough when the project does not specifically require Altivar.

Our field note

Schneider Electric is usually chosen for sites with BMS, SCADA, or an older Altivar already in the cabinet. Predictability matters there. Before ordering we ask for a motor nameplate photo and a short mechanism description. That filters out 220/380 V, IP, and braking mistakes early.
