Lenze ESMD552L4TXA is a SMVector inverter rated 5.5 kW with three-phase 380 V supply (3~ 400 V-class input, 3×380 V output). Rated output current is about 12.6 A. Compact enclosure, removable EPM for parameter transfer.

A universal mid-power drive for pumps, fans and conveyor lines. Scalar V/Hz control with slip compensation, up to 240 Hz, built-in PID. The "X" build has no integral EMC filter; for dynamic braking of high inertia, confirm the external resistor. Fieldbus is added via a module. Modern equivalent: Veichi AC310.

Lenze ESMD (SMVector / smd) — compact drive for machine building

The Lenze ESMD series are compact frequency inverters from the SMVector family (legacy "smd" designation), rated from 0.7 to 22 kW. They are a workhorse for conveyors, pumps, fans, extruders and packaging lines: a slim book-style enclosure, side-by-side mounting and a removable EPM memory module that stores all parameters. You can pull the EPM from a working drive and plug it into a new one — the configuration transfers in a minute, no keypad or laptop needed. On the service bench that is the most common reason engineers like this series.

Supply: single-phase 220 V and three-phase 380 V

The series has two clearly separated builds, and you can read it straight off the part number. Models coded ...X2SFA are single-phase 230/240 V input (1~) with a three-phase 220 V motor output — handy where only a domestic mains is available. Models coded ...L4TXA are three-phase 400 V input (3~) with a three-phase 380 V output. So only three frame sizes are single-phase (0.7 / 1.5 / 2.2 kW); the rest are three-phase 380 V. Do not mix them up: a single-phase ESMD will not run on 380 V, and vice versa.

Control and capabilities

ESMD is a scalar V/Hz-controlled drive (constant and variable torque): automatic slip compensation and low-end torque boost give a confident start on typical loads. The series has no vector control — for stiff torque holding, positioning or encoder (closed-loop) feedback you would use a vector drive or a servo drive. Maximum output frequency is 240 Hz. A built-in PID controller covers pump and fan duties, plus DC braking.

EMC filter, braking, interface

The presence of an integral EMC filter is encoded in the part number (the filter digit in the type code: "F" = filter fitted, "X" = none), so match the part number to your task when ordering. On smaller frames the brake chopper comes as a dynamic-braking option with an external resistor — for frequent braking of high inertia, confirm the variant by part number. Fieldbus (Modbus RTU/RS485, CANopen, PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP) is added via a plug-in communication module, not built in.

The Lenze ESMD is discontinued from mainstream production but still widely installed, so we keep it as a repair and compatibility item.
