PowerFlex 4 22A-D8P7N104 is the most powerful drive in our selection, an Allen-Bradley unit rated 3.7 kW (5 HP) with a three-phase 380–480 V input, a 3×380–480 V output and 8.7 A rated current. V/Hz control with slip compensation (no vector). The "104" build is Standard, with a built-in brake IGBT (BR+/BR-) for an external resistor. RS-485 (DSI) Modbus RTU, 150%/1 min overload, IP20.

For top-of-series three-phase pumps, fans and conveyors on a Rockwell network. IP20 means a cabinet. If you need zero-speed torque, PID or logic, see the Veichi AC310.

Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 4 (22A) — a simple V/Hz micro drive for conveyors, fans and pumps

The PowerFlex 4 is Rockwell Automation's entry-level series: a small, rugged drive for simple jobs where you just need to spin a motor smoothly without paying for vector control. We keep it as a legacy line — most buyers want a like-for-like replacement in plants standardised on Allen-Bradley, or a spare for existing lines. Control is honest V/Hz (scalar) with slip compensation (±2% speed regulation over a 40:1 range) — no vector mode and no encoder. If you need torque at zero speed or speed feedback, this is not the series.

What you genuinely get out of the box

• Built-in RS-485 (DSI) with Modbus RTU — every drive can be multi-dropped onto a PLC or SCADA network with no add-on card. That is the standout feature for its class.
• 150% overload for 1 min and 200% for 3 s, class-10 motor overload protection per NEC.
• Maximum output frequency up to 240 Hz, 2…16 kHz carrier, several stop modes (ramp, coast, DC-brake, S-curve).
• Fixed keypad and quick commissioning through parameter groups.

Two braking versions — a detail that matters

The last digit of the catalog number sets the build. Version "4" (…N104) is Standard, with a built-in brake IGBT (BR+/BR- terminals) for an external dynamic-brake resistor. Version "3" (…N103) is No Brake IGBT: only DC+/DC- terminals, with no dynamic braking. Our 480 V three-phase units carry the brake transistor; the single-phase 240 V units do not. DC-injection braking is available on all of them.

Supply and power

Two branches are stocked: a single-phase 220–240 V input (3×220 V motor) at 0.75 / 1.5 / 2.2 kW, and a three-phase 380–480 V input at 0.75 / 1.5 / 2.2 / 3.7 kW. The enclosure is IP20 (NEMA Open), so the drive must go in a cabinet. An EMC filter on the PowerFlex 4 is an option / separate build (our catalog numbers ship without a built-in filter); add an external filter if you need one.

When the PowerFlex 4 fits — and when it does not

• Choose it for a like-for-like Allen-Bradley replacement, a simple fan/conveyor/pump without vector, or a quick Modbus node on a Rockwell network.
• Skip it for low-speed torque jobs, synchronous motors, or anywhere you need built-in logic/PLC — the PowerFlex 4 cannot do that.
