ACS180-04S-050A-4 is a 22 kW ABB drive, three-phase 3×380 V supply, 50.0 A. This is the top of the ACS180 series in the heavier current variant (50 A) — for applications with higher starting/overload current.

Typical applications:

Note: the series has two 22 kW models — this 50 A one and the "045A" at 45 A. Choose the 50 A variant if the load is heavier by current (higher starting torque). Built-in brake chopper (R4), sensorless vector, Modbus RTU. For more than 22 kW, use ABB's higher series.

ABB ACS180 — compact machinery drive for serial-built machines

The ACS180 is ABB's entry-level machinery VFD covering 0.25–22 kW. • Pumps and fans: built-in energy optimization lowers motor flux at partial load — less current, quieter operation. Typically 0.7–22 kW.
• Conveyors: sensorless vector control holds torque at low speed; larger frame sizes include a built-in brake chopper for controlled stops.
• Compressors, mixers, winders: ABB lists mixing and winding machines among the series applications.
• Single-phase supply: the "1" variants run from a 1-phase 230 V mains and deliver a 3-phase output — handy where only a single domestic phase is available but the motor is three-phase (up to 3 kW).

How the ACS180 compares

Honestly: on motor control the ACS180 and budget Veichi drives in this class are close. You pay for the ABB name, embedded SIL3-rated STO, long support and service. If the machine is simple and the budget is tight, Veichi AC10/AC01 will cover the same job for less.

When the ACS180 is NOT the right choice

• You need closed-loop encoder feedback, high dynamics, or PROFINET/EtherCAT — go to ABB ACS380/ACS580 or a drive with a PG card. The ACS180 is sensorless and Modbus-RTU-centric.
• Power above 22 kW — out of the series range; see larger drives.
• A very simple single machine on a tight budget — consider Veichi AC10/AC01.
