Frequency Converter Tuning Services
Frequency converters are electronic devices that are used to control synchronous or asynchronous electric motors powered by alternating current. A voltage with a given variable frequency and amplitude is generated on the output channel of the converter. Two types of converters are used to control electric motors: with scalar and vector regulation (control)
When regulating in a scalar way, a stable ratio of the maximum resistance torque on the shaft and the maximum motor torque is maintained When the frequency converter is operated with a scalar control, the frequency change is accompanied by a change in the voltage amplitude The rated power factor and efficiency of the electric motor remain stable during these changes control a whole group of electric motors
The vector method of controlling the frequency converter makes it possible, in addition to the formation of a harmonic phase voltage, to provide a controlled change in the torque of the electric motor. This method significantly increases the speed control accuracy and control range
Vector control is classified as follows:
- touch vector control;
- sensorless vector control
Sensor control makes it possible, using a speed sensor on the motor (encoder), to more accurately regulate the speed of rotation of the electric motor, sensorless models do not have this possibility. Using vector control, you can get a high energy saving effect, which ranges from 30% up to 60% of the total consumption of electrical energy Proper tuning of frequency converters with vector control requires deep knowledge of the operating personnel in the field of electric drive The use of frequency converters in conjunction with the introduction of an automation system significantly increases work efficiency:
- conveyors;
- pumps;
- cranes;
- fans;
- machines;
- compressor stations;
- lifts
To create automatic process control systems (APCS) based on frequency converters, devices with built-in proportional-integral-derivative controllers (PID controllers) are used. With this component, the engine rotation speed can be determined by the system parameters: speed, flow, pressure , level, temperature and others. This was made possible thanks to the analog signal from the sensors. The PID controller built into the frequency converter ensures automatic operation of the system while maintaining the specified parameters
