Delta MS300 — compact AC drive with built-in brake chopper and STO

The MS300 is Delta's standard-compact frequency inverter that succeeds the VFD-E and VFD-M families. In our catalogue the series spans 1.5 to 22 kW across two supply classes: single-phase 230V (1×220 input, three-phase 220V to the motor) and three-phase 380–480V (3×380). It is a ready-to-work drive for machine building, conveyors, fans and pumps where panel compactness matters.

What actually sets the MS300 apart in the compact class

The first thing we point engineers to: the brake chopper is built into every model in the series — per the manufacturer datasheet it is present from 0.2 kW up to 22 kW. In practice this means dynamic braking only requires an add-on brake resistor, not an external braking module. That is a typical Delta advantage over many compact competitors where the chopper disappears at mid power.

Second is motor control. The MS300 runs V/f and sensorless vector control (SVC) for induction motors, and drives permanent-magnet (PM) synchronous motors in sensorless PMSVC mode via a dedicated IM/PM selection and a built-in PM speed estimator. Control is fully sensorless — no encoder is required, which simplifies wiring and commissioning. If you need a hard closed loop with a speed feedback device, choose a higher series that supports a PG card.

Communication, safety, filtering

A built-in RS-485 Modbus RTU port (COM1) is on every MS300, so connecting to a PLC or SCADA needs no extra card. CANopen, Modbus-TCP, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS, EtherCAT and PROFINET are added via option cards (for example CMM-COP01 for CANopen). The drive includes STO (Safe Torque Off), simplifying integration into emergency-stop systems without an external contactor.

In the AFSAA build (exactly the part numbers in this catalogue) the EMC filter is built in (class C3 with motor cable up to 30 m). Output frequency reaches 599 Hz per the manufacturer datasheet, and a simple built-in PLC handles basic logic. Enclosure rating is IP20.
