Mitsubishi PLC: When We Pick FX and When the Project Calls for iQ-R

Mitsubishi at our shop historically lands with two customer segments. First, Ukrainian workshops that put in FX1N/FX1S 10-15 years ago and now want a one-for-one replacement. Second, new packaging and food lines where the engineer deliberately picks FX3U or FX5U over Siemens because of GX Works habit. Both groups buy the compact FX range, so we keep that on stock. L series and iQ-R we order to project, 7-10 days lead time.

How we ship it. Up to 30 I/O points we take FX1S (budget, no expansion). From 14 to 60 points with growth headroom: FX1N or FX3G. If you need positioning, high-speed counters or pulse output for a stepper, jump straight to FX3U-32MR-UA1 (compact flagship, 0.065 us per bit instruction, up to 3 axes). Programming is GX Works2 for FX series, GX Works3 for iQ-R and FX5U. Licence note: GX Works3 is paid; for FX2N/FX3U the free GX Developer is often enough.

FX1S, FX1N, FX3G or FX3U: Which Series Fits Your Project

Before placing an order we ask the customer three things. First: how many I/O points you need today and whether expansion is on the roadmap tomorrow. Second: site power (24 DC for panel-mounted systems, 100-240 AC for stationary installations). Third: output load type (relay MR for switching up to 2 A, transistor MT for fast switching of steppers or servos). Top-5 models by our sales:

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Mitsubishi PLC series are available?

The catalog includes Mitsubishi Alpha 2, FX1N, FX1S, FX3G, FX3U, L and compatible modules for I/O and communication expansion.

What is Mitsubishi FX used for?

FX series controllers are used in small and medium machines, packaging lines, pump systems, ventilation and upgrades of older control cabinets.

Can you select an analogue for an old FX PLC?

Yes, but the exact model, power supply, output type, expansion modules and programming environment are needed to reduce compatibility risks.

How is Alpha 2 different from FX?

Alpha 2 is a compact logic relay for simple tasks. FX is a full PLC with wider I/O, higher speed, expansion modules and more programming options.
