Electricity outage schedules have affected all of Ukraine. This has particularly painfully affected residents of multi-story buildings. Because in addition to the lack of electricity in the apartment, there is also the problem of physically getting to one's apartment. And it seemed that it would be simpler to install a hybrid inverter with batteries or a generator and everything would work, but there is one "but"... The fact is that most of our elevators are still operating from Soviet times. And their motors are started by "direct" start - that is, from a starter. The motors in these elevators are usually 5.5-7.5 kW, two-speed, low-speed, and have a large starting current. As a rule, this starting current reaches 10 times the nominal. Therefore, when choosing an inverter or generator, this must be taken into account. That is, you need to choose an inverter or generator designed for this starting current. That is, instead of a 5 kW inverter or generator, you need to install a 50 kW one, since these devices can hardly withstand starting currents.

However, such a powerful generator or inverter costs a lot, which usually becomes a heavy expense for condominium associations or service companies. But there is a solution. A frequency converter is used for complete or practically complete elimination of starting currents. This miraculous device makes the motor start and stop smoothly, extending the motor's lifespan. One of the popular series for such a solution is the CH310E series from the well-known manufacturer VEICHI. This is a specialized series for use specifically in elevators.
Here are all the necessary functions for the elevator mechanism –
1. Ability to connect a braking resistor to dissipate energy during braking.
2. presence of the STO function – a safety function that instantly blocks the creation of torque on the motor.
3. Ability to work with an encoder, and many others.
As a rule, the integration of a frequency converter into the elevator control system does not entail significant changes in the circuit design and in no way weakens the reliability of the system.
Thus, for solving the problem of elevator operation from a generator or hybrid inverter during power outages, installing a frequency converter will be the optimal solution, as it will save a significant amount of money when purchasing power generating equipment.
