ACS880-01-025A-3 is an ABB ACS880 frequency inverter rated 11 kW, 3×380 V, 25 A nominal current. It's a premium industrial drive with Direct Torque Control (DTC): it holds torque under shock loads and runs sensorless from zero speed. This frame size suits machines where it isn't just speed that matters, but how the torque behaves.

Typical applications:

• Small-bore extruders, viscous-medium mixers
• Hard-start conveyors, small bridge cranes
• Screw feeders and dosers under shock load

Note: In our packet every ACS880-01 model is 3×380 V, IP21, with a built-in EMC filter and built-in braking chopper (you only add an external resistor). There is no built-in PLC — put the logic in an external controller.

ABB ACS880 — premium industrial drive with DTC

The ACS880 is ABB's top-tier drive. You don't buy it just to spin a pump — you buy it where torque has to hold under shock loads: cranes, hoists, winches, extruders, crushers, mills, winders. In our range this is the wall-mounted ACS880-01, 3×380 V, 0.7–110 kW, IP21. For an ordinary fan or centrifugal pump it's overkill — a simpler drive is the smarter spend. For a heavy, torque-sensitive machine, the ACS880 earns its price.

Why DTC matters

The defining feature is Direct Torque Control. The drive regulates stator flux and motor torque directly, with no fixed modulator. In practice that means high starting torque, fast reaction to load steps, and accurate speed and torque control right down to zero speed — without an encoder (and in closed loop with a sensor when needed). On a crane that's holding the load at the start of a lift; on an extruder it's steady torque while the melt viscosity drifts.

• Extruders, crushers, mills, calenders: constant torque and tolerance to shock loads.
• Winders and test rigs: torque accuracy at low speed.
• Heavy industry: metals, pulp and paper, oil and gas, chemicals, mining, cement, marine machinery.

How the ACS880 differs from alternatives

Honestly: for a pump or fan the ACS880 is money wasted — a simpler drive is enough. The ACS880 pays off on heavy machinery that needs DTC dynamics, torque at zero speed and built-in SIL safety.

Integration and service

Fieldbuses connect via plug-in adapters: Modbus RTU (FSCA-01), PROFIBUS (FPBA-01), CANopen (FCAN-01), EtherCAT (FECA-01). Firmware and parameters live on a removable memory unit — if the hardware fails you move the unit into a new drive and carry on, no programmer needed. It's rarely mentioned in datasheets, yet on a continuous line it saves a shift.

When the ACS880 is NOT the answer

• An ordinary variable-torque pump or fan — choose ABB ACS580 or Veichi AC310, you don't need to pay for DTC.
• You need a PLC inside the drive — the ACS880-01 has none; put the logic in an external controller.
• Single-phase 220 V supply — in our packet the ACS880 is 3×380 V only.

It's mostly integrators and plants with an ABB corporate standard who buy the ACS880, and the questions are almost always the same: "will it run a crane without an encoder" (yes — that's exactly what DTC is for) and "is the braking module built in or separate" (in our packet models the chopper is built in, you just add an external resistor).
