EMC Filters for Variable Frequency Drives — Electromagnetic Interference Protection
An external EMC filter (electromagnetic compatibility filter) is installed between the power supply and a variable frequency drive to suppress high-frequency interference generated by the VFD's PWM inverter. Without a filter, conducted emissions propagate through the mains and affect the operation of sensors, PLCs, medical equipment, and communication systems. The EN 61800-3 standard defines three categories of permissible interference levels: C1 (residential and office environments), C2 (industrial sites with restrictions), and C3 (unrestricted industrial zones). Our catalog includes external EMC filters of classes C1–C3 for VFDs rated from 0.4 to 160 kW. Additional VFD accessories include braking resistors, braking modules, and operator panels.
How to Choose an EMC Filter for a VFD
When selecting an external EMC filter, consider four parameters: rated current (must match or exceed the VFD current with a 20% safety margin), supply voltage (230 V single-phase or 400 V three-phase), filter class (C1 for residential buildings, C2 for industrial with restrictions), and the connected motor power rating. Mount the filter as close as possible to the VFD power input — cable length between the filter and the drive should not exceed 30 cm for maximum effectiveness.

EMC Filter Manufacturers
Our catalog features external EMC filters from Bosch Rexroth — designed for EFC, FV, and Fe G/P series frequency converters from 0.4 to 160 kW. Bosch Rexroth filters comply with EN 61800-3 categories C1 and C3 and are rated for three-phase 400 V networks. For other VFD brands (Delta, Danfoss, Schneider Electric), filter selection is based on rated current and required filter class.
EMC Filters by Specifications
Select a filter by connected VFD power: from 0.4–2.2 kW for light-duty applications to 160 kW for heavy industrial installations. Single-phase filters (230 V) are designed for compact VFDs, three-phase (400 V) for most industrial drives. Filter class C1 provides maximum interference suppression for sensitive equipment, C3 offers a baseline level for industrial zones.
