Kinco MT5x20 Series Operator Panels

The MT5x20 series by Kinco comprises 28 models of graphic touchscreen HMI operator panels with screen sizes ranging from 5.7 to 15 inches. These mid-range panels feature colour TFT displays (65,536 colours) designed for process visualisation in manufacturing, water treatment, HVAC, and energy management applications. Every model supports Modbus RTU/TCP and TCP/IP protocols, includes RS232, RS422, RS485 and Ethernet interfaces, and is equipped with two USB Host ports and one USB Client port. All panels are programmed using the free Kinco DTools software.

MT5x20 Technical Specifications

All MT5x20 models are built on ARM processors with colour TFT matrices. Standard communication interfaces include RS232, RS422, RS485 and Ethernet. Depending on the variant, additional expansion boards are available:

  • CAN — CANopen module for distributed I/O system integration;
  • MPI — direct connection to Siemens S7-300/S7-400 controllers without additional adapters;
  • DP — Profibus-DP interface for high-speed industrial networks.

Models with screen sizes from 5.7 to 10.4 inches include an audio interface for alarm and event sound notifications.

Each base model comes with communication expansion variants: -CAN (CANopen), -MPI (Siemens MPI), -DP (Profibus-DP). For example, MT5423T-MPI is an 8-inch 800x600 panel with an MPI port for direct connection to Siemens S7 controllers.

Application Areas

MT5x20 panels are used across various industrial sectors:

  • Manufacturing automation — conveyor, packaging line and CNC machine visualisation;
  • Water treatment and pump stations — pressure, level and flow monitoring with trend display on 8-15" screens;
  • HVAC systems — ventilation, heating and air conditioning control in commercial buildings;
  • Packaging equipment — recipe management and equipment status monitoring;
  • Power generation — monitoring of generator, transformer and switchgear parameters.

Compact MT5320 models (5.7") are suitable for mounting in control cabinet doors, while larger MT5720 panels (15") serve as dispatching consoles.

Other Kinco HMI Series

In addition to the MT5x20, Kinco offers the MT4x00 economy series for simpler applications, and the MT6x00 advanced panels with enhanced performance. The full HMI catalogue from multiple manufacturers is available in the Operator Panels section.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an HMI panel and a PLC?

A PLC runs the automation logic, while the HMI shows the machine state and sends operator commands to the controller or VFD. If you need I/O and control logic, use a PLC. If you need a screen with buttons, alarms and setpoints, use an HMI.

Which HMI screen size should I choose for a control cabinet?

For a simple machine, 4.3-5.7 inches is usually enough. A 7-inch panel works well for pump stations, ventilation and small machines. Choose 10.1 inches or larger when the operator needs trends, recipes, alarm logs or several mimic screens.

Does an operator panel need Ethernet?

Ethernet is useful for Modbus TCP/IP, several controllers, remote service or connection to the plant network. If the panel is next to one VFD and communicates over RS-485, Modbus RTU is often enough.

Can an HMI be connected directly to a VFD?

Yes, if the VFD supports Modbus RTU or Modbus TCP and the register map is available. For Veichi drives we often check VI20 or VI30 panels because they fit Veichi-based control cabinets well.

What information is needed to replace an old operator panel?

Send the old panel part number, cutout size, supply voltage, port type, protocol and the project file if it is available. Without the project file, the screen project often has to be rebuilt.

Can you select an HMI for a specific PLC?

Yes. Send the PLC or VFD model, required screen size and communication method. We will check the ports and suggest the series that fits the project best.
