Announcement of the new PowerFlex 527 drive from Rockwell Automation
Rockwell Automation has introduced the first alternating current drive specifically designed for integration with Logix programmable controllers (Programmable Automation Controllers, PACs), such as ControlLogix, GuardLogix PAC, and Kinetix.
The new drives utilize the same features as Kinetix servo drives, allowing for the creation of similar configurations. This simplifies programming and managing both types of drives, which in turn helps save time during project development. According to Jimmy Koh, manager at Rockwell Automation: "Until now, most system integrators have not programmed variable frequency drives the way they program servo drives. We developed a new drive to eliminate design complexities and provide the necessary level of performance for the evolution of our new Premier Integration."
Advantages of the new PowerFlex 527 drives
Premier Integration allows users and integrators to quickly integrate their drives into the Rockwell system with Integrated Architecture, significantly reducing the time and tools required for programming and configuring the system.
Once programming is complete, the drive configuration files can easily be transferred to a new line by simple copying. Additionally, the Logix PAC is capable of detecting drive replacement and automatically downloading all configuration parameters via Ethernet/IP protocol. This helps reduce the downtime of the line or technological process.
Technical specifications
The PowerFlex 527 drive is equipped with two Ethernet/IP ports and provides a high level of network security. This helps reduce costs for equipment, electrical connections, and simplifies the implementation of SIL 3/PLe safety system.

- Safe disconnection feature.
The drive also allows for precise motor control operations, such as speed, torque, and position regulation. It is available in five frame sizes, with power ratings from 0.4 to 22 kW and operating voltages from 100 to 600 V, making it versatile for use in various conditions.
