Water supply system for a summer residence

Autonomous Water Supply for Country Houses

Private country cottages and summer houses are often located far from centralized water supply networks. Therefore, it is necessary to organize an autonomous water supply system here. This system is one of the fundamental components of the life support of a private house.

Components of the Water Supply System

The water supply system includes:

  • water source;
  • pumps;
  • filters;
  • external and internal piping systems.

The main basic schemes of autonomous water supply are similar in technical execution but differ in water sources.

Water Sources in Country Wooden Houses

A common water source in the village is a well. A pump is installed in the well, which pumps water through a pipeline into the house and other outbuildings. If there is no existing well on the site, it needs to be dug. Before starting the digging, it is important to find out at what depth the aquifer is located in this area. After the well is constructed, a water analysis must be conducted in a specialized laboratory.

Another popular and reliable water source is a borehole. Boreholes are drilled by specialists using a mobile drilling rig. During the drilling process, casing pipes are installed to protect the water from pollution. At the top of the borehole, a caisson is installed to protect the borehole from freezing, debris, and dust.

Types of Boreholes

Boreholes for water are divided into two types:

  • Sandy boreholes: are drilled to a depth of 15–40 meters. Due to their shallow depth, they relatively inexpensive and very popular. A sandy borehole can supply water to a medium-sized country house if it does not require a large water consumption. A compact pump is installed in such a borehole.
  • Artesian boreholes: have a depth of 50 to 160 meters. At such depths, the water is located between two dense soil layers, which protect it from contamination. Despite their high cost, these boreholes are often drilled and equipped for several cottages or entire summer cottage areas. An immersion pump is installed in the artesian borehole, and a storage tank is located nearby.

The choice of water source depends on the needs of your house and budget, but a proper approach to this issue can ensure reliable water supply for many years.
