Are the new Yaskawa frequency converters easy to set up from your smartphone?

New Range of Yaskawa Variable Frequency Drives

Yaskawa has introduced a new range of general-purpose variable frequency drives designed for controlling synchronous motors and permanent magnet motors.

GA700 Series

The drives of the GA700 series, whose launch was announced at the 2016 SPS IPC Show in Germany, include the "smart energy saving" feature. This feature increases the efficiency of asynchronous motors by 6% at 20% of the nominal speed, as well as enhances the efficiency of permanent magnet motors by 2%. New capabilities include the MPTA (maximum torque in amperes) function, which reduces the consumed current based on the load on the motor.

Drive Configuration with a Smartphone

The drives are initially available with a power rating of up to 630 kW, 400 V, and already incorporate built-in components that are typically offered as options. These include:

  • Brake modules and resistors up to 75 kW
  • EMC filters
  • DC chokes up to 22 kW

These variable frequency drives simplify integration into industrial networks and support core communication protocols, as well as various communication topology technologies (ring, star, line, etc.). Up to five drives can be connected in an industrial network using a single card at a speed of 1152 kbit/s with built-in support for RS-485, Modbus, and Memobus protocols.

Modern Control Panel

The control panel with a high-resolution display and a keypad with a tactile interface provides easy access to navigation menus and simple use of the startup wizard. The Bluetooth option allows linking the drives with mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets. The mobile app offers easy configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of the drive, as well as the ability to store data in the cloud.

PC Configuration Programs

To configure the drive using a PC, several programs are available:

  • DriveWizard - a tool for setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting, as well as trend monitoring functionality with an oscilloscope.
