ABB's new ACH series drives are more compact and easier to install

New ABB Frequency Drives for HVAC Systems

ABB has introduced a new series of frequency drives designed specifically for use in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. These drives can be used with asynchronous electric motors rated from 0.75 to 250 kW, including permanent magnet motors and synchronous machines. The new ABB ACH580 frequency drive is equipped with BACnet and Modbus communication protocols, allowing for integration into automation systems.

Energy Efficiency and Performance

ABB notes that using these converters in combination with IE4 class SynRM motors provides the highest energy efficiency and performance on the market. The drives can locally display data or transmit it to the control system via the bus. Additional energy savings are achieved through the adjustable speed of the internal fans.

Benefits and Design

Frequency converters certified for IE2 efficiency are available in two versions: IP55 or IP21, which reduces the space required for installation. Additionally, models can be supplied in an IP55W enclosure suitable for outdoor use under direct sunlight at temperatures from -15°C to +50°C. The metal housing allows for mounting on flat surfaces as well as walls, saving up to 70% of space during system upgrades. All new models have compact dimensions compared to their predecessors.

Specialized Displays and Ease of Use

The ACH580 series drives have a specialized display for pump and fan-related tasks (HVAC). They are easily configurable thanks to a dedicated HVAC remote panel and macros in the control panel. This also allows monitoring of energy savings and receiving alerts for necessary equipment maintenance.
