New ABB Frequency Converters at the SPS IPC Drives 2016 Exhibition
At the SPS IPC Drives 2016 exhibition in Germany, ABB introduced new frequency converters designed for efficient and simple control of pumps, fans, and compressors. The compact drive of the new ACS480 series will be available in power ranges from 0.75 to 11 kW and voltages of 380-480 V.

Main Features and Benefits
The primary goal of the new drive is to reduce energy consumption. The built-in energy optimizer provides direct access to critically important information about energy efficiency, helping users monitor and reduce the amount of energy used in the technological process. The new frequency converter can also control high-efficiency synchronous motors.
Key characteristics include:
- IP20 protection.
- Pre-programmed functions, including a PID controller.
- Macros for pumps and fans.
- Timers for managing the most commonly used variable torque applications.
The built-in EMC C2 filters comply with European and international standards. To ensure the safety of people and equipment, functions such as TÜV-certified safe torque off (STO) are already included as standard.
Additional Communication Capabilities
The drives also support Fieldbus adapters for Profibus DP, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, and PROFINET IO. Additionally, they can communicate via Bluetooth with mobile devices, simplifying the configuration and monitoring of system status.
General Information about ACS480
The new general-purpose ABB drive is designed for energy-saving production. The ACS480 uses the same user interface, tools, and options as other ABB drives, simplifying the selection, installation, and operation of the drive.
