Initialization of the frequency converter
The initialization of the frequency converter is a necessary procedure that is performed in rare cases, such as:
- installation of a new converter;
- moving an old converter to a new location to work with new equipment;
- critical software failure.
Attention! After the initialization procedure, all existing settings and programs will be lost. Therefore, if there are important data in the internal memory, it is necessary to back them up in advance.
The initialization of the VLT Micro Drive and VLT HVAC Basic converters can be performed in two ways:
- from the operator panel;
- through the menu.
Initialization of the converter from the operator panel
To initialize from the operator panel, the converter must be turned off and de-energized. You need to press and hold two buttons simultaneously – "Menu" and "Ok". While holding these buttons, apply power to the converter. After a few seconds (usually 3-5), a characteristic click will sound, after which the buttons can be released.
Initialization of the converter through the menu
You need to set the parameter 14-22 to the value 2. After that, de-energize the converter and apply power to it again. The converter will automatically reset the existing values and record the factory settings. A successful initialization procedure will be indicated by an error on the screen "Alarm 80". To reset the emergency mode, send the Reset signal through the menu and press the "Ok" button on the panel.
Adapting the converter to a new motor
When connecting the frequency converter to a new motor, it is important to align the converter's settings with the motor's parameters. In most cases, the converter installations correspond to the desired motor parameters – variable voltage 400V and frequency 50 Hz. However, it is recommended to check the compliance of all basic values.
The automatic adaptation of the VFD to the motor parameters (AMA) can be useful if the motor is unmarked and its parameters are unknown. In this case, connect the converter to a cold (unwarmed) motor with a stationary shaft. On the panel, you need to press the "Hand on" button. The converter will start the motor and determine all the necessary parameters. Wait for the automatic adaptation procedure (AMA) to complete and press the "Ok" button. Make sure that in the menu the value of parameter 1-29 has returned to state "0".
Description and recommendations for setting other parameters of the converter
Menu parameter code | Parameter name | Description and recommendations for setting |
1-01 | Motor control principle | There are two possible modes: "VVC+" (vector control) is recommended for most cases; "U/f" (amplitude-phase control) – for several motors or if precise parameter setting is not possible. |
1-03 | Torque characteristic | Three values: |
14-41 | Minimum magnetization AEO | Usually set to "66". If energy saving does not ensure reliable dynamics, this value can be increased. |
1-62 | Slip compensation | [100]% – for operation with compressors, conveyors; [0]% – for fans and pumps to prevent fluctuations. |
