Conveyor Modernization: Advantages of Bosch Rexroth Hägglunds Drives
A Brazilian mine, producing 40 million tons of iron ore per year, has modernized one of its conveyors by implementing the Bosch Rexroth Hägglunds drive. This hydraulic direct drive technology has significantly improved the reliability and safety of the conveyor.

Benefits of Conveyor Modernization
During the conveyor modernization process, several important issues were resolved:
- Smooth speed adjustment;
- Resistance to impact loads during loading and unloading;
- High productivity due to the hydraulic direct drive system.
The Bosch Rexroth Hägglunds drive replaced the electromechanical drive, which previously operated at a constant speed in combination with a hydraulic coupling. Bosch engineers managed to modernize the conveyor in just three days.
The Path to Safety and Reliability
The simplicity of modernization became one of the key advantages of the new system. The modular solution can be easily installed even in limited spaces thanks to the flexible placement of the drive unit and the ability to install the drive drum directly on the drive rotor.
Ensuring the safety of the conveyor operation was a crucial factor for the mining company. The use of hydraulic motors, which are insensitive to dust and sand, along with the system’s ability to withstand high overloads during startup, significantly enhanced the conveyor’s reliability. This allowed for a reduction in maintenance needs and increased wear resistance.
Higher Productivity and Continuous Operation
The Hägglunds drive system improved the conveyor’s productivity, achieving 2700 tons per hour. The new system also simplified the motor power adjustment, allowing for easy torque or speed regulation without affecting the drive’s lifespan.
"Diagnostic tests show that the drive system is in excellent condition. The mining company will be able to significantly increase production volume if necessary," says Kell Bystrem, Bosch Rexroth engineer. "The company will utilize the acquired experience for further adjustment of the conveyor, which is a positive sign."
