During the operation of frequency converters (FCs), various failures can occur. The main causes of these problems include:
1. Erosion and CorrosionErosion is a consequence of the effect of moisture and liquids on the frequency converter. When moisture enters the FC, it can cause serious failures, sometimes even leading to complete breakdown. Therefore, it is important to periodically clean the FC to avoid such problems.
2. Dust and ContaminationFrequency converters can accumulate dust, especially in the textile industry. Collected dust reduces the cooling and ventilation efficiency of the device, which can lead to overheating. In conditions of increased humidity, caused by a combination of dust and moisture, the risk of failure of the FC components increases, which can cause short circuits and fires. Comparatively, industrial dust from cement production or flour mills also complicates ventilation and shortens service life. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically clean the boards and ventilation openings.
3. Oil Contamination and FilmsFrequency converters, which are installed on machines in certain industries, may be exposed to oil. The composition of machine oil and its viscosity can cause serious problems in the operation of the converters. Under the influence of oil, the electronic components of the FC lose their characteristics, which can lead to fires or device failure. Moreover, machine oil complicates ventilation and worsens the cooling of the FC. To prevent problems, it is recommended to use a protective casing and regularly clean the device.
4. Failures of Multi-Functional Inputs/OutputsImproper use of the frequency converter can lead to the failure of its inputs and outputs. This can occur when the allowable voltage and current values are exceeded. When using the FC, follow the instructions and technical specifications to avoid undesirable consequences.
5. Improper InstallationOne of the main issues is improper installation of the electrical wiring. If the screws are not securely fastened, this can lead to their heating and sparking due to increased electrical resistance.
