Implementation of VSD Frequency Converters
The implementation of VSD frequency converters on centrifugal installations is not recommended, as they usually operate above the first critical speed. Changing the speed in these systems can lead to serious equipment damage.
Commissioning Checklist
Proper adjustment of VSD is crucial for the uninterrupted operation of the energy-saving system. This work should be carried out by installation specialists who will ensure maximum resource savings and prevent potential compressor damage.
Common Issues
- Air Pressure Sensor Location - the correct placement of the sensor is critical, especially in systems with long pipelines. Incorrect sensor placement may lead to insufficient pressure at the system's output.
- Control Systems - many older control systems are designed only to turn compressors on and off. In VSD systems, it is possible to regulate at a fixed value, providing flexibility in management.
- Electromagnetic Interference - VSD converters can cause electromagnetic interference that negatively affects radio and telecommunications equipment. Most manufacturers provide special filters for shielding. Consulting specialists will help avoid future problems.
- Harmonics - Using VSD can result in harmonic distortions in the power supply. This may go unnoticed when the VSD load is small and the available power is large. However, with a large number of low-power frequency converters or the presence of several large systems, such distortions can severely affect electrical systems and lead to problems with other devices.
