Testing of frequency converters in Ukraine

Improvement of Industrial Enterprises in Ukraine

Recently, there has been a trend in Ukraine towards the improvement of the industrial enterprise park through frequency converters. The rise in energy costs and the redirection of factories to European markets necessitate a review of production costs and product quality.

Frequency converters make it possible to reduce electricity costs during production and enhance the quality of products, as well as contribute to the modernization of outdated equipment.

Challenges of Implementing New Systems

At operating enterprises, the process of improvement is complicated by the inability to stop certain production lines for extended periods, which can disrupt the operation of the entire factory. In such cases, enterprise managers set limited deadlines for specialists to avoid delays in the process.

Before installing a new system, initial testing must be conducted to reduce the likelihood of accidents during operation.

Installation

  • Use only quality spare parts in accordance with technical conditions and specifications during the installation process.
  • Check the protection system of the frequency converter.
  • Ensure the reliability of the grounding of all installed units.
  • Conduct a check of the system for short circuits, phase sequence, and phase loss.
  • Do not use capacitive elements or devices that change polarity between the converter and the motor.
  • Check the correctness of the wiring installation.

Initial Startup

  • Start the frequency converter without connecting to the motor.
  • Input the motor parameters.
  • Select the motor operating mode.
  • Adapt the motor automatically.
  • Check the direction of rotation of the electric motor.
  • Test the frequency converter with the motor by conducting an initial run: accelerating to maximum revolutions and smooth stopping. Pay attention to the smoothness of acceleration and stopping, as well as any abnormal behavior of the system elements.
  • If problems are detected, rectify them.
  • If necessary, adjust the parameters of the frequency converter settings for precise tuning under the motor's operating mode.
  • Switch the frequency converter to remote control mode if programming is necessary for the proper operation of the converter.
  • Test the frequency converter in external control mode.
  • Completely stop the system and inspect it for any problems or mechanical defects.

All mentioned measures should only be carried out by qualified specialists with adherence to safety regulations.

Possible Problems and Precautionary Measures

A frequency converter is a powerful device with high voltage and current. Neglecting safety protocols can lead to injuries or even fatal consequences.

If there are doubts about the operation of the system or its elements, immediately disconnect the equipment and conduct testing.

During preliminary testing, it is necessary to monitor the main parameters - voltage, current, phase sequence to detect and eliminate potential problems before the system startup.

The motor parameters must be set before startup and should not be changed during its operation, ensuring they match the actual values of the motor.
