Accessories for frequency converters Part 2

Remote Control of Frequency Converters

Control of frequency converters can occur not only through a built-in panel but also remotely. For this, external controllers, remote control panels, or personal computers are used. The remote control can be located up to 300 meters away from the converter itself. It has a design of a pendant block with a robust protective casing (protection degree IP20), ensuring reliability during operation.

The remote control can be used in operational modes controlling the converter via a computer or external controllers.

  • PDU – remote control panel;
  • XX – modification code:
    03 – for converters of modifications 02M1 and 04;
    05 – for converters of modification 04;
  • YYY (only for PDU-03 modification) – type of communication interface with external devices:
    232 – RS-232 interface;
    485 – RS-485 interface.

Functional Capabilities of High Voltage Frequency Converters

The converters of series PЧВН and PЧВМ offer a wide range of protective functions for the device and the entire drive. To control the motor, the method of scalar control according to the eight points of the U/f characteristic is applied.

Methods of Controlling the Operation of the Drive

Control can be performed by the following methods:

  • by commands from the operator via the local built-in panel (manual control);
  • automatic change of operating mode according to a given schedule;
  • remote control from a panel or external devices through the subsequent RS-485 interface.

Methods of Frequency Regulation

Frequency can be set in one of the following ways:

  • through buttons on the built-in panel;
  • regulating with a potentiometer;
  • thanks to the built-in clock;
  • by the state of discrete inputs;
  • by the signal level at the input of the setter;
  • through the serial RS-485 interface.

Methods of Motor Control Regulation

Motor operating modes can be regulated by one of the following methods:

  • direct frequency regulation;
  • PID regulation.

Main Functions of High Voltage Converters

The main functions of high voltage converters include:

  • smooth starting and stopping;
  • automatic control of frequency and amplitude;
  • automatic maintenance of temperature and pressure;
  • restarting of the drive after a brief disconnection;
  • overload protection;
  • dynamic braking of the drive with the presence of a braking resistor;
  • flexible adjustment of the U/f characteristic;
